I’m finally consenting to only buying P good, expensive toys. I’m not trying to spoil her I’m just over the uselessness of cheap toys.
I bought her this Madame Alexander doll at Costco for $20. I should know by now that if something seems to good to be true it is. When we got the doll home she smelled awful. The rubber had to air out. After a day the smell was still very intense. P picked up right away how much I hated the smell so she said she didn’t want the doll anymore. I told her it was ok we would let her air out but she still didn’t want it. I found that touching.
Cheap plastics and rubber from China are so toxic for kids. It infuriates me that our government has no bans on these poisons and allows them so freely around children. Ah, another topic for another day.
Beside cloth dolls, my favorite dolls have been the Corolle dolls which smell so good and the American Girls. Both are made very well. Both are pricey but dolls are toys that will be played with for a good 5-10 years and therefore worth the investment.
Something I noticed with P’s choice of doll that I’m proud of. There were three dolls available. One very blonde doll that looked a lot like her. A second dirty blonde, fair skinned doll and this one. She chose the African American doll. I asked her why this one and she said she liked the dolls camera and her hat and boots. She said this doll was stylish. So far, if given the choice, P always chooses an African American doll over a white one. Which btw….why is it ok to call Caucasians white but African Americans can not be called black? In Spanish people are called by their actual color, ie: cocoa, caramel, cafe, chocolate or milk. It just is what it is, but it’s all beautiful for sure.
