I’m trying to get back to doing some of the things I use to do with P. One of them is visiting the turtle pond and botanical garden at our neighborhood college. P loves them both. How we spend our time there has changed greatly. She use to spend hours there just playing with rocks and plants. Now, she’s more interested in finding something the turtles will eat.
I’ve also forgotten what great exercise these walks are. Besides it being a 20min journey, if she’s in the stroller and a good 40 min one if she’s walking, we always end up playing on the soccer fields. This week we stopped at the hand ball courts. I was inspired by a friend’s post and decided it was time I get back to doing the basic hand eye coordination games with P. We were played with a ball for a good 30 minutes. A lot of fun and a great deal of good.
The last time we did this kind of journey it was with my dad. As we walked on the empty soccer field I vividly remember my dad lying on the grass as P and I ran around with a soccer ball. It was one of the last “alive” moments we shared with him.
These basic days are good. They make both of us feel happy and grounded.
