P goes down for a nap at about 2pm everyday. She of course, isn’t too keen on the idea. Like clockwork everyday, at about this same time, she’s very focused on a game with her toys. It’s the kind of playing I wish she did more of when I need to get something done. She’s not jumping or getting into things She’s quietly playing with her Littlest PetShops or her train or something small and containable.
I wanted to endorse this kind of own her own playing. So, I figured out that if I tell her at about 1:15-1:30 that its almost time for a nap she’ll tell me she really wants to play. I then tell her she can if she plays on her own in her room. And she does. She knows her options are play in her room or take a nap…pretty easy choice for a 2 year old. This gives me an extra half hour to 45 minutes to clean up or start prepping lunch while she plays. Then when I put her down for her nap at 2pm, I get to sit on the couch or do something for ME instead of doing chores. Also, she goes down for a nap much quicker. I think she feels she won one battle so she gives in on the next. This new trick has been like the invention of butter for me!
