As of last week P started her music classes at The Colburn School in downtown LA. The class is at 10:30am, prime rush hour traffic. As I sat at a light last week the bus zoomed by and I thought hummm that just might be faster.
It wasn’t. However, P and I loved the adventure of taking the Metro this week. It probably took us an extra hour roundtrip taking the bus vs driving. It was well worth it though.
First of all P loves riding on the bus. Second, I was able to interact with her the entire way. We read books, talked about the things we were seeing on the ride and she talked to nice strangers. Third, I love that she is becoming comfortable with a metro system. When she grows up she will be able to use one anywhere in the world without being overwhelmed. She rode a subway for the first time ever. Fourth, it was a less stressful commute for me….and I could go on with many reasons why I loved the Metro.
Besides the bonus perks like P learning to be patient for the next bus or train and us saving gas and having no carbon footprint on a 40 mile trip, there were other fun things. P learned about tatoos today. A man sitting next to us looked like Kevin Federline and was covered with tats. P touched his arm and said “Mamma, wat that?”. I explained it was a marker drawing that didn’t go away. She said “No Mamma, it a stamp”. Thankfully the guy laughed and smiled every time P touched his arm to investigate the “stamp”.
