Last Sunday P went ice skating for the very first time! It was amazing!
Our friends invited us to join them for some outdoor skating fun. Hubby had to work that morning so I thought I could do this alone. I’ve skated before but it’s been decades. When we got to the rink P couldn’t wait to get on. She wanted to do this very badly. We laced up the skates and got on the ice.
What a mistake! I couldn’t stand up. I was holding onto the rail which left me with one hand for P. Poor child was on the ice in no time. She could see my fear but I could see she still wanted to make this work. We were on and off in 5 minutes. My lack of skill made it too dangerous.
Hubby joined us for lunch and then he got on the ice. He knows how to skate. P was ready to join him. Besides showing great athleticism and balance P showed determination, focus, confidence and amazing courage. She really has no fear. These qualities really impressed me.
During the bedtime routine she told Hubby that skating was harder than she thought but that she wanted to try it again. I L-O-V-E that determination!
There’s a part of me that’s wringing my hands and thinking “ah, a great athlete in the making”. Must remind myself to let her choose her direction!!!!!!!!!!
