It’s been a busy week. P is evolving in so many ways and I’m struggling to keep up. Most of her changes, even the tough ones, are natural for this age. It takes a lot more patience and understanding to find the middle ground of discipline than to either yell at them all the time or let them do whatever they want. Half the battle is knowing where that middle ground lies. Lots of things happening this week and these were the highlights.

Went to West Hollywood to pick up a kids guitar for $30 off Craiglists. It’s the perfect buy as she gets acquainted with musical instruments. If she goes Axel Rose on the guitar I won’t feel bad. If she loves it and wants more then we’ll turn to our musical experts in the neighborhood to advise us on a better instrument.

Grandma sent us a care package. It had a witches’ hat filled with chocolates and matching mini mug. Hat and mug for P. Chocolates for Pappa. I got egg poaching cups and that ended up being the most interesting part of the package for P.

Thursday:

Wednesday:
Took our first music lesson. P loved it! It’s a much needed experience. We dance and “play” instruments at home but the socializing with other kids her age and watching someone who really knows how to sing and play the guitar is a different experience all together. I could see another part of her brain opening up. She has been a calmer child since then and now asks to dance and sing everyday. I love it!
In the evening her BFFs came over. Always a special treat. Eventually we ended up in my nail polish bag and I gave manicures to everyone including P…with clear coat. I always said my daughters would not be allowed to wear makeup until they were 16. Obviously that rule has changed. I must admit I really, really love this aspect of having a girl.

Woke up to the most amazing fog. P wanted to go out and meet up with all her friends as they went to school. Took this shot of her walking along the school fence.
Friday:

We’ve started on her Halloween costume. Part of it arrived in the mail so I tried it on for size. It all fits and she’s so comfortable she wanted to run around the house in it. Had trouble getting it off.
A blue jay came to feed at our bird feeder! First bird ever! We’ve had the feeder for over three months and finally a customer. P really enjoyed watching him eat. We sat on the floor of our bedroom very quietly as he ate. Amazing!

P won’t eat green veggies. I’m on a mission to find a way to get some in her system. Was up till midnight making meals from “Deceptively Delicious”. P woke up at midnight, crying and upset she wasn’t cooking with me. With the most earnest face she ran into the kitchen saying “I help Mamma”. A chef in the making. Love it!
Trying to get back to athletic activities. Went to Pierce College’s turtle pond (botanical garden). On the way stopped to see the pee-wee soccer games playing on their fields. P was very interested. I think it will be a good sport for her in the future with how much she loves to run.
For today, we fed turtles and watched humming birds feed. This morning I read a Pooh book and it talked about how seeds travel before they go into the ground. P saw seeds float thru the air off pods. This interaction of reading and then seeing a concept in action in real life is just magical. I see the wheels in her head go round and round. The world is making more and more sense.
