Today we painted for the very first time. We set up our outdoor table in the shade and I introduced P to the world of paints.
I started by showing her that every time you switch colors you have to wash the brush before you use another color. It wasn’t long before she was frustrated. I stopped telling her what to do, held back with every ounce of strength and watched as she mixed colors like mad. She was happy mixing and putting paint everywhere.
I noticed: she didn’t like finger painting.
I wondered: is it better not to paint “real” objects with her and just let her create whatever she wants? Does drawing a fish, for example, inhibit her from from making the ideas in her head?
Today she is also 20 months old.
