We went to a 5 year old birthday party today. It was a lot of fun. P is much younger than most who went but she kept up just fine.
I however, am over people trying to stuff candy down my kids mouth! Why? Anyone who knows me knows that I am trying to keep my kid off processed sugar for at least the first two years of her life, if not three, when she goes to pre-school and some of it will be out of my hands. It is proven that sugar kills cells. And, children’s taste buds need to be matured to develop a desire for less sugary foods. So why can’t my dietary goals for my kid be respected?
I love it when other parents and doctors tell me I need to let P cry it out in her crib, at night to go to sleep. They say “she’ll never have a memory of this”. Then they tell me “oh you’re making her miss out on cake?”…well, guess what she’ll NEVER have a memory of missing cake either. I’m suppose to be ok with hearing my kid scream for me and then fill her virgin body and cells with processed sugar? Hummm…thats good parenting?
Children’s brains are constantly developing until 5 years old. I’d really like to let her body use all it’s resources for building cells, developing brain connectors, milenating the brain connectors, developing more direct brain paths and growing her body period. That’s a lot of tasks right there. Eating sugar hinders all of that by making the body use some of its resources to repair itself. Its not as noticeable at this age but it is happening.
The irony is that most parents haven’t done the research on how sugar affects our bodies. They also don’t want to hear my thoughts on this but they do want my kid to have candy. “Here come get some candy just don’t tell your parents”. I’d like to go to their kids “here have some coke and a few uppers just don’t tell YOUR parents”.
Bottom line, even if I am a nut…she’s MY child and we are both ok with our diet plan. Today P saw me with a plate of cake (this is about her baby brain not mine) and she shook her head no to it.
What she “misses” in cake and candy I make up for with amazing dishes like orzo with peppers, rosemary and corn, home made pizza, home made pasta sauce, home made waffles, home made banana muffins, black bean soup, sea weed snacks, organic dumplings, hummus, sushi etc. And YES my 17-month old eats ALL of this and more because I am introducing her taste buds to everything else but sugar.
So all parents who know me and don’t respect my wishes…next time you offer my kid candy I’m going to give your kid a tripple-shot, mocca iced blended so they keep you up ALL night and drive you fucking nuts.
